REAL State of the Union,  Tuesday, February 9, 2016; 6:30pm Reception; 7:00pm-8:30pm; $10 suggested donation

Ben Hill United Methodist Church, 2099 Fairburn Road SW, Atlanta GA 30331

Please join us at the 14th annual REAL State of the Union!

We have a great line up this year, featuring the critical perspectives, wisdom, and humor of three outstanding individuals: Perennial REAL State front man Jay Bookman, the investigative journalist who started it all; newly tapped President of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Janice Mathis, will be flying down from DC; and co-director of Rise Up Georgia, Nelini Stamp, a community organizer at the intersection of activism and voting, especially with labor, youth, and the anti-violence and criminalization movement.

This year we're changing up the format slightly. The speakers will address the audience in a series of short speeches; and then they will sit in a semi-circle, holding dialogue based on questions from attendees, with the opportunity, perhaps, to include audience participation where possible.

This year's theme is "Building Solidarity." What does it mean to have allies and co-conspirators? How can we work together across dynamics of age, power, culture, and race to create the changes we wish to see in the southeast? Lke we said, this year's event is participatory for those interested, so feel free to bring your unanswered questions from President Obama's State of the Union address, and other issues, concerns, questions, and debate topics youhave, and we'll share them with our speakers. If you're inclined to submit your questions in advance, we'll accept them up until Monday, Feb. 1 at 5:00pm.

Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks! Thanks to our speakers and to our hosts at Ben Hill United Methodist Church!
