The REAL State of the Union Roundup 2014

RSU_14_6About 100 guests gathered at 7 Stages Sunday, February 16, 2014 for The REAL State of the Union. Jay Bookman, author and Atlanta Journal Constitution columnist and blogger gave the keynote, addressing income inequality and Janice Mathis, local attorney, Vice President of the Citizenship Education Fund component of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and radio personality, responded with a speech outlining how we, as US residents, can take action for a government of the people, for the people and by the people.

Local artist Mike Molina captured the crowd with two stirring spoken word performances, one, Eisenhower’s Anthem, written specifically for  The REAL State of the Union.

We also took time to remember and honor Dr. Evelyn Lowery in memory of her birthday, February 16.  Her advocacy and activism for racial justice and women's rights and her constant efforts to lift up others serve as inspiration. Ms. Lowery was a valued member of the Georgia WAND Advisory Board, a partner in our work and a cherished friend to our community.
