Public Speaks out at Public Service Commission hearing

Georgia WAND staff and members comprised a significant portion of the large crowd that gathered to voice their concerns about Georgia Power’s proposed rate increase of nearly 12 percent Monday, November 8 at a Georgia Public Service Commission hearing.

The proposed increase, if approved, would leave Georgia ratepayers with $1.2 billion to pay collectively over the next three years.

Citizens that spoke out at the meeting voiced clear messages. Georgia Power’s rate increases demonstrate poor fiscal planning and will burden Georgians at a time when so many are suffering economic hardship. Their investment in high risk energy is not only a burden to Georgians’ pocketbooks, but also their health and safety, and the environment.

A huge thanks goes out to everyone who showed up and made their voice heard!

The PSC will host another hearing December 1. Georgia Power will give a rebuttal on the rate hikes. The meeting is open and the public may speak.
