Community Partner Event: Coalition for the People's Agenda Empowerment Meeting

Join the Coalition for the People’s Agenda for their next Tuesday Empowerment Meeting! Come take part in the work of a great group of civil rights, human rights, and peace and justice organizations. The topic for the meeting will be about next steps for voting rights.

Community Partner Event: No to Endless War Vigil

Join the Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition/Atlanta for their weekly vigil, standing up against endless war. Come speak out about grounding the drones, excessive Pentagon spending, and the importance of prioritizing jobs, education, healthcare, and peace!

When: Every Wednesday, 4:45 PM - 5:45 PM; Next Vigils on Wednesdays, July 3-31

Georgia WAND and Community Partner Event: Stand for Peace

Come out to Stand for Peace every Friday at 12 PM! Spread the message of peace at this weekly vigil, and then afterwards, join folks in the Colony Square Food Court for lunch, discussion, and fellowship.

Stand for Peace began over ten years ago to speak out against the Iraq War, and still continues every week to promote the message of ending wars and building peace.

Georgia WAND Event: Nuclear Committee Meeting

The next Nuclear Committee Meeting is Monday, July 8! Join the discussion group focusing on all things nuclear: including weapons, waste, power, and clean-up. Bring your lunch and come hear updates about current work and action being taken. Whether this is your first time or you’ve joined us before, this is a great opportunity to be involved!

Community Partner Event: "Bring Down the Wall"

Following our events for Immigration Reform, this upcoming week we are visiting the GOP headquarters this Tuesday July 9th, to urge the Republican dominated US House to Give us a Vote on Citizenship, not a Wall. For that, this Saturday, July 6th at 9 AM, we are going to be at the offices of GLAHR making a banner that will represent the wall that is being built at the Mexican-US Border that we are going to use on Tuesday as an allegory of our event.

Community Partner: Stop Plant Vogtle Coalition Meetings

Savannah River Site Citizen's Advisory Board: Waste Managment Committee Meeting

Join Georgia WAND at a special Savannah River Site Citizen's Advisory Board (SRS CAB) Waste Management Committee meeting where they will be deciding on ONE position to be presented to the full CAB about SRS becoming storage for nuclear waste.

Public Service Commission Meetings on Vogtle Construction

This month are the next Georgia Public Service Commission meetings regarding the Plant Vogtle Construction project. This will be Georgia Power Company's Eighth Semi-Annual Construction Monitoring Report concerning the building of Vogtle reactors 3 and 4. Georgia WAND will be present at the meeting, continuing to voice concerns in relation to the project.

Community Partner Event: Third Friday Film Series

Come see this month the 2011 film, ‘Heist: Who Stole the American Dream’, a documentary by Frances Causey and Donald Goldmacher. The film talks about there being only two kinds of power in America: organized money and organized people.

Popcorn and refreshments will be available, and there will be a discussion after the film led by members of Atlanta Jobs with Justice.

Donations are welcome - $1 to $10 sliding scale.

The film showing is co-sponsored by Atlanta Jobs with Justice and First Existentialist’s Social Justice Guild.

Savannah River Site Citizen’s Advisory Board Meeting

The next Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) meeting is this month. Georgia WAND will be specifically presenting at the meeting this time. Also, although the CAB did not vote on the proposal that would decline bringing waste to SRS for interim storage at their May meetings, they are supposed to vote on this at the July 22-23 meeting.

Please join Georgia WAND in participating at the CAB meeting, and make your voice heard on environmental justice issues in Georgia and around SRS. All general meetings are open to the public with opportunities for comments.

July 27-August 9

Interfaith Peace Walk in the Pacific Northwest

Follow the walk to raise awareness about the negative impact of nuclear weapons and nuclear energy facilities on human health and the environment! This year, Susan Cundiff, secretary of the WAND, Inc. board and chapter leader of Oregon WAND, will be taking part in the two-week Interfaith Peace Walk for a Nuclear Free Future, traveling through communities in the Pacific Northwest.

This annual walk is led by Br. Senji Kanaeda and Br. Gilberto Perez of the Nipponzan Myohoji Temple on Bainbridge Island. Susan will walk 210 miles, blogging and tweeting to sponsoring groups and friends each day. Georgia WAND will be featured in the blog on July 29th while walking through Toppenish and Yakama Nation.
