Georgia WAND is happy to welcome Phyllis Richardon to the squad! We are fortunate to have someone with Phyllis’ spirit, energy and talent joining us during this important time at our organization and in the work. She will be serving as our Government Affairs coordinator working to help us advance our relationship building and education efforts at the local, state, and federal levels of government as we continue working towards a Just Political Transition and Nuclear Harm Reduction.

Phyllis has thirty plus years of government and political experience beginning in the late 1980’s by working several years as an Executive Assistant for the Chairman of the Miami Dade County Commission. She was also a staff supporter for the historic Summit of Americas and Congressional Black Caucus meetings and served as point person between the Office of the Chairman, Miami Dade County and the United States White House.

She continued her public service in the position as a Deputy Clerk for the Miami Dade County Board of Commissioners and was an instrumental member of the Miami Dade Clerk’s office. In addition, she served as Executive Assistant to a City of Miami Commissioner and was the Office Manager for the Broward County Bar Association.Phyllis served as Senate and Legislative Aide to Georgia Senator Gloria Butler, District 55, and Senator Valencia Seay, District 34, the appointed City Clerk for the City of Snellville, GA, the Recording Secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People “NAACP” State Level and the Gwinnett County Chapter. She served as Policy and Procedures Director, for the National Women Political Caucus “NWPC”, Georgia Chapter and a Member of the Municipal Clerks & Finance Officers Association and The International Institute of Municipal Clerks “IIMC”.

She worked with Women’s Action for New Directions, “WAND”, Program Associate in Atlanta, GA assisting former National WiLL president Senator Nan Orrock, City Clerk in the City of Snellville, Georgia, Election Superintendent for the 2015 Election Year, Legislative and Administrative Assistant to Georgia State Senator Gloria Butler, District 55 and Senator Valencia Seay, District 34, Office Manager to the Broward County Bar Association in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Deputy Commission Clerk to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts in Miami, FL, Executive Secretary to Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners, Chairman Teele Jr. in Miami, FL where she assisted in the coordination of special community events, such as “The Summit of Americas” and “Joseph Caleb Community Center’s 20th Anniversary.”

She has an extensive career in supporting and facilitating community civic engagement as a community organizer a volunteer with Veterans Empowerment Organization of Georgia, Inc. as Public Relations Officer, “VEO”, Kids Creek Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy, and LifeLink of Georgia, and lobbying Georgia State Senators and Representatives on behalf of Plan Parenthood, American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia “ACLU”, Women In The Halls Citizen Lobbying Group and members of Congress in DC on behalf of Women’s Action for New Directions “WAND”. She is also a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People “NAACP”, and The National Women Political Caucus “NWPC”, Snellville Chapter President, and a member of the planning committee for New Jerusalem Baptist Church “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Community Events” in addition to being the Ministry Leader of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church “NJBC” Political Action Ministry.
She has earned certifications from the Carl Vinson Institute of Georgia, State of Georgia Municipal Election Official, and State of Georgia Municipality Continuing Education. She is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and Georgia Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association. She is a member of the Board of the following organizations: Africa’s Children’s Fund Board, Children’s Usher Board of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, The National Women’s Political Caucus “NWPC” Georgia Chapter, Gwinnett Chapter, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

She has received accolades of appreciation and achievement from the following organizations: United States Information Agency (USIA), Miami-Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas, Outstanding Young Americans, Dade County Clerk Harvey Ruvin, LifeLink of Georgia, International Institute of Municipal Clerks Code of Ethics, Georgia  Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission, and the United Way.

Phyllis has already played instrumental rolls in the successful implementation of Georgia WAND’s participation in Capital Conservation Day (CCD) in partnership with the Georgia Water Coalition by participating on the CCD planning committee and our introduction of our No First Use House and Senate Resolutions by working with Rep. Becky Evans and Senator Nan Orrock. Georgia WAND had the pleasure of being introduced in the galley in the House of Representatives. That same day Phyllis coordinated a successful first time ever Georgia WAND Legislative Tea and Sweets at the Capital in which all women of the Georgia State legislator were invited.
