Georgia WAND & Partners Host Meeting for Georgia Campaign for Peace in Korea by Becky Rafter

Georgia WAND is pleased to be part of the Southeast Ground Crew for a national coalition to advance peace on the Korean Peninsula. We had our first local face-to-face meeting on Saturday, 2/2, at the Korean American Association of Greater Atlanta.

The team so far has consisted of the following organizations: Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta, Atlanta SeSaMo (People in Solidarity with the Families of Sewol Ferry Victims, Atlanta), Georgia WAND Education Fund, Re’Generation Movement, and Women Cross DMZ.

At the meeting, we discussed next steps for the Georgia Campaign for Peace in Korea, and, in addition to the organizers, was attended by local activists, scholars, members of the Korean community, a member of the Shell Bluff community, and a state representative staff member. Our main next steps include finalizing a letter to Congress, recruiting signers, and disseminating it to the Georgia Congressional delegation. We’ll also be recruiting for the for the Korea Peace Network Advocacy Days on March 13-14 in Washington D.C. Please stay tuned to see how you can support these efforts!
