Georgia WAND hires Becky Rafter as new Executive Director

Georgia Women’s Action for New Directions (Georgia WAND) announced today that Becky Rafter has been hired as the new Executive Director.  The board is thrilled to welcome Ms. Rafter to the organization.  After graduating from Agnes Scott College, Rafter served in a variety of non-profit management roles before moving to New York City to attend New York University.  Upon graduation with a Masters of Public Administration, Rafter served as Director of Stakeholder Engagement at The Funding Exchange.  Rafter’s experience, education, and Georgia roots promise to serve Georgia WAND well as we move forward in our mission.

Becky RafterI am overjoyed to join Georgia WAND as Executive Director at this pivotal time in the organization’s history,” Rafter says.

The dominant culture of war, power and oppression is in full effect. And the ways it has historically manifested in the South continue plaguing our communities, land, water and spirit today. Georgia WAND is transcending this culture of supremacy and building toward a collective vision of what “21st century peace” could be.

“With relentless determination, Bobbie Paul and other members of Georgia WAND have navigated the organization to the forefront of women’s political empowerment. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and continuing their legacy alongside the activists, donors, community and religious partners, political allies, business allies, board members and talented staff of Georgia WAND. My tenure begins with the Mother’s Day for Peace event on April 28 -- what an exciting way to kick things off!”

Rafter will work with Bobbie Paul through a transitional period.  While Georgia WAND recognizes that Paul could never be “replaced” we are confident that Rafter will provide excellent leadership and vision as we move forward.  We are thankful that while Paul leaves the “position” she continues to embrace the “mission”.  Georgia WAND is optimistic and excited to welcome Becky Rafter!  Our future is in good hands.

Georgia WAND LogoGeorgia WAND’s mission is to empower women to act politically to reduce violence and militarism, and redirect excessive military resources toward unmet human and environmental needs.
