Georgia WAND helps deliver CWIP Repeal petition to Governor Deal

Georgia’s nuclear power plant Plant Vogtle’s current construction of 2 new reactors is only 40% complete but is already $5 billion over budget and five years behind schedule.
Currently, many Georgia electric customers are paying for this nuclear power unknowingly. It’s called Construction Work in Progress (CWIP).

Georgia WAND has supported Nuclear Watch South’s brainchild, the Stop CWIP Coalition, which has been gathering signatures of a petition for five years. Other coalition members include ARRP (Aging Raging Rate Payers), Atlanta Grandmothers for Peace, and Center for a Sustainable Coast. The bill to sunset CWIP, SB 355, passed both chambers and is headed to the governor to be signed.

On Wednesday, Lindsay Harper joined Glenn Carroll of Nuclear Watch South and other Stop CWIP Coalition members to deliver the petition, which garnered more than 3,000 signatures, to Governor Nathan Deal’s office.
