Emergency Actions for Troy Davis

Troy Davis has been sentenced to death for a crime he may not have committed.

He has been give an execution date of Wednesday, September 21 at 7 pm  in Jackson, Georgia, with a clemency hearing on Monday, September 19.

Davis has been on death row for 18 years, despite compelling evidence for his innocence. His case has garnered international attention and he has the support of prominent peace organizations and individuals such as Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Pope Benedict XVI, Jesse Jackson Jr. and even the Council of Europe and European Parliament.

But now, it is of utmost importance that GEORGIANS act. Please see below for actions you can take NOW and events this week as we work for Troy's freedom.

Troy Davis Committee Emergency Meeting
There are just 8 days from this meeting to stop the execution of Troy Davis. This is Urgent. March and Prayer Service for Global Day of Solidarity for Troy Davis
Join the Georgia and national leaders of Amnesty International and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Larry Cox and Ben Jealous; Rev. Raphel Warnock (Ebenezer Baptist Chruch); Martina Correia, sister of Troy Davis, death row exonerees; and other guests for an evening of prayer, music and witness. Meet at Woodruff Park (Peachtree Street and Edgewood Avenue) at 6 pm and march to Ebenezer Baptist Church for a service at 7pm. Informational Picket at CNN
Take to the streets to inform the public and encourage more coverage about Troy's case. 2-4pm at the corner of Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Marietta Street NE

Sunday, September 18 - Monday, September 19

24 Hours for Troy
A 24-hour picket at the Board of Pardons and Paroles- Sloppy Floyd state office building, 2 MLK Drive across from the Capitol  Sunday at 7:30 am to Monday at 7:30 am going into the Clemency Hearing and Vigil on Monday. Stop by for as long or as little as you'd like in support and solidarity with Troy Davis. Plans will discussed and announced during this time for further emergency actions after the clemency hearing.

Monday, September 19

 Clemency Hearing and Vigil
A vigil bill be held in front of the Sloppy Floyd state office building, 2 MLK Drive across from the Capitol  (location of the Board of Pardons and Paroles) - Monday Sept 19 7:30 a.m - 2 p.m. during the time the Board will be hearing the Troy's clemency appeal.  People can come any time during that period.  The building is located at the Georgia State Marta Station

Wednesday, September 21

Planned execution day. Check back for updates on further actions planned for this day.
