Thank you for an Incredible 14th Annual REAL State of the Union!
Georgia WAND wishes to thank our friends at Ben Hill United Methodist Church, especially Martha Bell and Senior Pastor Byron E. Thomas, along with our intelligent and engrossing speakers, Jay Bookman – author and Atlanta Journal Constitution columnist and blogger, Janice Mathis – Executive Director of the National Counsel of Negro Women, and Nelini Stamp – Co-Director of RiseUp Georgia. GA WAND board member, Lindsay Harper, did a wonderful job moderating a lively, insightful discussion.
We also wish to thank Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters who taped the show, so we’ll let you know when to tune in to watch the dialogue and speeches in cased you couldn’t make it. And thank you Joaquin Lara for taking photos! Kim Karris created the graphic, and Barry Weinstock printed the posters for us–thanks ya’ll! Annie Laura Howard Stephens and the Georgia WAND board of directors prepared a delicious spread at the reception. And we had a crew of awesome volunteers, Erin, Bekkah, Carol, and Ruby! The pre-show was electrifying, between Reverend Sanders’s opening prayer, Annie Laura’s welcome, and Che’s introduction. And thank you to GA WAND advisory board members who attended: Sen. Nan Orrock, Krista Brewer, Helen Butler, and Barbara Meyer. GA WAND past board members Flo and Carol were in attendance, as was Bobbie Paul and many of our closest and some newest, friends and allies. Thank you, board members, Catherine, Carol, Betsy, Lindsay, Steph G, Dianne, and Kim for working hard to make this event a success! Johnna and Che went above and beyond to ensure the event’s success. And we’re so glad to have shared the night with all of you! Building Solidarity starts with us in the spaces we occupy each day.
