May 2014  Events

May 14, 2014 – Join the Georgia WAND team as we leave Atlanta at 2:00pm to head to Athens for a WeCount! Voter Training. Contact Amanda@georgiawand.org for location details or if you need a ride.

May 15, 2014 – Voter Registration Drive – West End MARTA station off Lee St.  3-6PM (2hour shifts) – voter registration training provided and no experience necessary – come learn and have fun!

May 19, 2014 – Phone banking for  primary elections– Join us at the Georgia WAND office from 11:00 to 2:30 to call people to remind them to vote in the MAY 20 PRIMARY Elections –training,  lists,  and scripts provides – light snacks and beverages. Come On Down to the Georgia WAND office - 250 Georgia Ave, Suite 202

May 20, 2014 – PRIMARY ELECTION DAY  anyone who can be “on call” to provide transportation  for people who need rides to the polls – please contact Amanda@georgiawand.org to be added our volunteer list for that day.

March 2014 Events

March 6: WeCount! 2014 Election Committee

Location: Georgia WAND Office : 6:30-7:00 pizza/drinks; 7:00pm -8:30 working meeting.
This will become a regular monthly meeting (decided by the group) to coordinate voter registration, education, and mobilization efforts statewide.

March 11: Georgia WAND joins with Georgians For Alternatives to the Death Penalty for a day at the Capitol.

Location: Central Presbyterian Church across from the State Capitol
9:00-10:00 AM: Lobby training and light refreshments
10:00-11:45AM– Meeting with legislators – State Capitol – third floor
12:00PM- Capitol Rotunda second floor – Press conference with speakers.

March 12: Women in the Halls hosts Georgia WAND for lobby training and meeting with our legislators.

February 25: Day of Outrage! Join Georgia WAND members as we demand an end to the police practices of profiling and harassment. We demand solutions that do not criminalize our communities. We join in solidarity with transgender communities and communities of color who are unjustly discriminated against by the legal system. 1 out of 5 of all trans women and 47% of African American trans people have been to prison or jail. Black people in Fulton County are 7.5 times MORE likely than whites to be arrested for low level drug offenses, one of the worst racial disparities in the nation. - ACLU, The War on Marijuana In Black and White
