Women. Power. Peace.

WAND Founder, Dr. Helen Caldicott

Georgia WAND is the local chapter of a national organization that seeks to channel women's voices into a powerful movement for change.

WAND was founded as Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament in 1982 by Helen Caldicott, long-time anti-nuclear activist and founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility. The name was later changed to Women's Action for New Directions as we broadened our mission and sought to connect the dots between excessive military spending and unmet human and environmental needs.

The two issues closest to our hearts are nuclear non-proliferation and re-writing the federal budget from the perspectives of progressive women. To these ends, Atlanta WAND organizes monthly meetings, featuring critical issues, which end with taking action. Welcome to Atlanta WAND!
