Update: Sen. Isakson votes for NEW START!
Yesterday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the New START treaty resolution of ratification by a vote of 14-4!!!
Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson joined two other Republican Senators and all 11 Democrats in support of the treaty.
Senator Johnny Isakson spoke near the beginning of the proceedings. Senator Isakson said his concerns over missile defense, nuclear modernization, and verification had all been sufficiently addressed. Then he revealed he would support the treaty!
Many amendments were then offered by Republican Senators in opposition to the treaty. After all of the amendments were defeated, a final vote was called. Here are the final results:

Now the full Senate must ratify the Treaty by a 2/3 super- majority vote. We here in Georgia must convince our other Senator, Saxby Chambliss, to vote in favor of the treaty as well! 1 down, 1 to go!
