SOA Watch Conference featuring “Killer Drones – The Vehicle of Empire”
Join Georgia WAND at the SOA Watch Vigil at Fort Benning. Georgia WAND is teaming up with the Drone Task Force of the Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition (GPJC) and the American Friends Service Committee along with thousands of social justice and peace activists at the gates of the School of the Americas (SOA; also known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, WHINSEC) where we will take a stand to resist US militarization and imperialization in communities abroad.
This year our team will help facilitate a workshop on Friday evening at 5:00pm, Killer Drones – The Vehicle of Empire sponsored by the Drone Task Force. The discussion will include Medea Benjamin, cofounder of CODEPINK, and will explore Georgia Tech’s unique partnership with Fort Benning to develop the next generation of autonomous drones which, according to the Washington Post, is the next step toward a future in which drones will “hunt, identify, and kill based on calculations made by software, not decisions made by humans.”
We need volunteers to give rides and/or to help at Georgia WAND's booth at the conference!
For more information about how you can participate, or if you are just interested in giving or finding a ride to Fort Benning, contact Emilia Kaiser at (404) 524-5999.
