Community Partner Event: Atlanta Says NO to War with Syria
Across the US and around the world, people are mobilizing to stop a US attack on Syria. Immediately following President Obama’s announcement that he would order a missile strike on Syria, street demonstrations began and phone calls flooded the White House, challenging the “evidence” behind the charges he lodged against the Assad government for allegedly using chemical weapons. Left isolated by Britain’s Parliament vote not to participate in an attack, the Obama administration is using inflammatory rhetoric and fear tactics to gain Congressional approval and sway public opinion.
When: Saturday, September 7, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: CNN Center, 190 Marietta St, NW

Community Partner Event: No More War Vigil
The global opposition to another war seems to have tempered the Obama administration’s open plans for military intervention in Syria. Certainly the overwhelming lack of support by the people of the US as evidenced by the number of protests and demonstrations in the last two weeks, the flood of calls to the White House and Congressional offices and the results of numerous opinion polls are playing a role in their calculations. However, the danger of another war is not over.
When: Saturday, September 14, 1:30 p.m.
Where: Decatur Square in front of the Old Courthouse on Ponce de Leon

Ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1972, in recent years he has become an outspoken advocate for the ordination of women as priests. In 2012 the Vatican dismissed him from both the Maryknoll order and the priesthood for participating in the ordination of a woman.
