Immigration Reform “Rally for Dignity”
Georgia WAND joined thousands of protesters—immigrants, activists, legislators, musicians, and religious leaders—from across Georgia to stand against hate and protest anti-immigrant legislation in our state. An estimated 6,000 to 9,000 people, clad in white, gathered at the Gold Dome to chant, sing and display signs with messages like “Say NO to the new Jim Crow” and “No Human Being is Illegal.”
We were proud to stand with your immigrant brothers and sisters and to welcome beloved Georgia activists the Indigo Girls to the stage to sing “Shame on You”.
We must take the energy from this rally and keep the momentum going. Please write to Governor Deal and urge him not to sign this hateful legislation if it crosses his desk.
ACT NOW and SHOW UP!
SB 40 is to be heard by the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee Monday, March 28, 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in Room 132 Capitol. Please attend and stand against this bill, which would authorize law enforcement officers to detain and check the immigration status of people who are simply suspected of committing a criminal offense.
