We Count! Student Day at the Gold Dome
Georgia WAND's We Count! political empowerment campaign and The National Coalition for 100 Black Women Northwest Georgia Chapter's High School to High Heels mentoring program teamed up on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 for a day at the Gold Dome. About ten young women toured the capital, spoke to elected officials and community leaders and engaged in dialogue about the issues that are important to them, and how they can become active in their communities, channeling their energies into powerful tools for social change.
The young women were enthusiastically engaged, asked questions, learned how to register to vote, and committed to volunteering on voter registration activities in future as well as other outreach activities. State Senator Nan Grogran-Orrock, State Senator Donzella James and Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan took time from their legislative work in session to speak with this inspiring group of young women.
