The recent elections, cabinet appointments, shootings, and civil unrest have left many people in deep fear for their lives, community safety, and the virulence of our democracy. There is a widespread desire to respond to these challenges, and Georgia WAND is in the thick of the action!
This year's REAL State includes a special thank you to Jay for 15 years of dedication to this event, which launched after he uncovered the U.S.'s imperial interests behind the 2002 invasion of Iraq.
Donations Accepted: $10 suggested; no one will be turned away for lack of funds
Everyone is welcome! Wheelchair Accessible.
This original Georgia WAND event began in February of 2003 as the U.S. was threatening an attack on the people of Iraq. Atlanta's peace and justice community was frustrated, and few journalists were challenging the Bush's administration's march to war. Jay Bookman, in his groundbreaking AJC article, "Bush's Real Goal in Iraq," revealed the neo-conservative think-tank, Project for the New American Century's long-game plan to expand U.S. empire building by occupying and securing oil sources in Iraq and the Middle East.
Georgia WAND invited Jay to speak and engage the public at Horizon Theater in Little 5 Points where a standing room only crowd listened and responded to this first REAL State of the Union. The Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery gave a responseREAL State for many years, followed by Andisheh Nouraee, and Janice Mathis.
